আমরা যদি বলি যে, তাঁহার সহিত আমাদের সহভাগিতা আছে, আর যদি অন্ধকারে চলি, তবে মিথ্যা বলি, সত্য আচরণ করি না।

তাই আমরা যদি বলি যে ঈশ্বরের সঙ্গে আমাদের সহভাগীতা আছে, কিন্তু যদি অন্ধকারে জীবনযাপন করতে থাকি, তাহলে মিথ্যা বলছি ও সত্যের অনুসারী হচ্ছি না।

If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

যে বলে, আমি জ্যোতিতে আছি, আর আপন ভ্রাতাকে ঘৃণা করে, সে এখনও অন্ধকারে রহিয়াছে।

যে বলে আমি জ্যোতিতে আছি কিন্তু তার নিজের ভাইকে ঘৃণা করে, সে এখনও অন্ধকারেই আছে।

Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.

He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

যে আপন ভ্রাতাকে প্রেম করে, সে জ্যোতিতে থাকে, এবং তাহার অন্তরে বিঘ্নের কারণ নাই।

যে তার ভাইকে ভালবাসে, সে জ্যোতিতে রয়েছে। তার জীবনে এমন কিছুই নেই যা তাকে পাপী করে।

Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling.

He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

কিন্তু যে আপন ভ্রাতাকে ঘৃণা করে, সে অন্ধকারে আছে, এবং অন্ধকারে চলে, আর কোথায় যায় তাহা জানে না, কারণ অন্ধকার তাহার চক্ষু অন্ধ করিয়াছে।

কিন্তু যে তার ভাইকে ঘৃণা করে সে এখনও অন্ধকারেই আছে। সে অন্ধকারেই বাস করে আর জানে না সে কোথায় চলেছে, কারণ অন্ধকার তাকে অন্ধ করে দিয়েছে।

But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

তোমরা জগৎকে প্রেম করিও না, জগতীস্থ বিষয় সকলও প্রেম করিও না। কেহ যদি জগৎকে প্রেম করে, তবে পিতার প্রেম তাহার অন্তরে নাই।

তোমরা কেউ এই সংসার বা এই সংসারের কোন কিছু ভালবেসো না। কেউ যদি এই সংসারটাকে ভালবাসে তবে পিতা ঈশ্বরের ভালবাসা তার অন্তরে নেই।

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

যে কেহ পুত্রকে অস্বীকার করে, সে পিতাকেও পায় নাই; যে ব্যক্তি পুত্রকে স্বীকার করে, সে পিতাকেও পাইয়াছে।

যে পুত্রকে অস্বীকার করে, সে পিতা ঈশ্বরকেও পায় না। কিন্তু যে পুত্রকে গ্রহণ করে, সে পিতা ঈশ্বরকেও পেয়েছে।

No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.

Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

তোমরা আদি হইতে যাহা শুনিয়াছ, তাহা তোমাদের অন্তরে থাকুক; আদি হইতে যাহা শুনিয়াছ, তাহা যদি তোমাদের অন্তরে থাকে, তবে তোমরাও পুত্রে ও পিতাতে থাকিবে।

শুরু থেকে তোমরা যা শুনে আসছ, সেই সব বিষয় অবশ্যই তোমাদের অন্তরে রেখো। শুরু থেকে তোমরা যা শুনেছ তা যদি তোমাদের অন্তরে থাকে তবে তোমরা পিতা ঈশ্বর ও তাঁর পুত্রের সাহচার্যে থাকবে।

Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.

Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

যে কেহ পাপাচারণ করে, সে ব্যবস্থালঙ্ঘনও করে, আর ব্যবস্থালঙ্ঘনই পাপ।

যে কেউ পাপ করে, সে বিধি-ব্যবস্থা লঙঘন করে, আর ব্যবস্থা লঙঘন করাই পাপ।

Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

আর তোমরা জান, পাপভার লইয়া যাইবার নিমিত্ত তিনি প্রকাশিত হইলেন, এবং তাঁহাতে পাপ নাই।

তোমরা জান, মানুষের পাপ তুলে নেবার জন্যই খ্রীষ্ট প্রকাশিত হলেন; আর খ্রীষ্টের নিজের কোন পাপ নেই।

You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.

And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

কেননা তোমরা আদি হইতে যে বার্ত্তা শুনিয়াছ, তাহা এই, আমাদের পরস্পর প্রেম করা কর্ত্তব্য;

তোমরা শুরু থেকে এই বার্তা শুনে আসছ, যে আমাদের পরস্পরকে ভালবাসা উচিত।

For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

যে কেহ আপন ভ্রাতাকে ঘৃণা করে, সে নরঘাতক; এবং তোমরা জান, অনন্ত জীবন কোন নরঘাতকের অন্তরে অবস্থিতি করে না।

যে কেউ তার ভাইকে ঘৃণা করে সে তো একজন খুনী; আর তোমরা জান কোন খুনী অনন্ত জীবনের অধিকারী হয় না।

Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

তিনি আমাদের নিমিত্তে আপন প্রাণ দিলেন, ইহাতে আমরা প্রেম জ্ঞাত হইয়াছি; এবং আমরাও ভ্রাতাদের নিমিত্ত আপন আপন প্রাণ দিতে বাধ্য। 

তিনি আমাদের জন্য নিজের প্রাণ দিলেন, এর থেকেই আমরা জানতে পারি প্রকৃত ভালবাসা কি। সেইজন্য আমাদের ও আমাদের ভাই বোনদের জন্য প্রাণ দেওয়া উচিত।

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

কিন্তু যাহার সাংসারিক জীবনোপায় আছে, সে আপন ভ্রাতাকে দীনহীন দেখিলে যদি তাহার প্রতি আপন করুণা রোধ করে, তবে ঈশ্বরের প্রেম কেমন করিয়া তাহার অন্তরে থাকে?

যার পার্থিব সম্পদ রয়েছে, সে যদি তার কোন ভাইকে অভাবে পড়তে দেখে তাকে সাহায্য না করে, তবে কি করে বলা যেতে পারে যে তার মধ্যে ঐশ্বরিক ভালবাসা আছে?

But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?

But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

বৎসেরা, আইস, আমরা বাক্যে কিম্বা জিহ্বাতে নয়, কিন্তু কার্য্যে ও সত্যে প্রেম করি।

স্নেহের সন্তানরা, কেবল মুখে ভালবাসা না দেখিয়ে, এসো, আমরা কাজের মধ্য দিয়ে তাদের সত্যিকারের ভালবাসি।

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

প্রিয়েরা, আইস, আমরা পরস্পর প্রেম করি; কারণ প্রেম ঈশ্বরের; এবং যে কেহ প্রেম করে, সে ঈশ্বর হইতে জাত এবং ঈশ্বরকে জানে। যে প্রেম করে না, সে ঈশ্বরকে জানে না, কারণ ঈশ্বর প্রেম।

প্রিয় বন্ধুরা, এস আমরা পরস্পরকে ভালবাসি, কারণ ঈশ্বরই ভালবাসার উৎস আর যে কেউ ভালবাসতে জানে সে ঈশ্বরের সন্তান, সে ঈশ্বরকে জানে। যে ভালবাসতে জানে না, সে ঈশ্বরকে জানে না, কারণ ঈশ্বর স্বয়ং হলেন ভালবাসা।

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

ঈশ্বরকে কেহ কখনও দেখে নাই; যদি আমরা পরস্পর প্রেম করি, তবে ঈশ্বর আমাদিগেতে থাকেন, এবং তাঁহার প্রেম আমাদিগেতে সিদ্ধ হয়।

ঈশ্বরকে কেউ কখনও দেখেনি। যদি আমরা পরস্পরকে ভালবাসি, তবে ঈশ্বর আমাদের মধ্যে অবস্থান করেন; আর তাঁর ভালবাসা আমাদের মধ্যে পূর্ণতা লাভ করেছে।

No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

ইহাতে আমরা জানি যে, আমরা তাঁহাতে থাকি, এবং তিনি আমাদিগেতে থাকেন, কারণ তিনি আপন আত্মা আমাদিগকে দান করিয়াছেন। 

আমরা জানি যে তিনি আমাদের মধ্যে আছেন; আর আমরা তাঁর মধ্যে অবস্থান করছি। এ বিষয় আমরা জানি, কারণ ঈশ্বর তাঁর আত্মাকে আমাদের দান করেছেন।

By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

আর আমরা দেখিয়াছি ও সাক্ষ্য দিতেছি যে, পিতা পুত্রকে জগতের ত্রাণকর্ত্তা করিয়া প্রেরণ করিয়াছেন।

আমরা দেখেছি পিতা তাঁর পুত্রকে জগতের ত্রাণকর্তারূপে পাঠিয়েছেন। সেই বার্তাই আমরা লোকদের কাছে বলছি।

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

যে কেহ স্বীকার করিবে যে, যীশু ঈশ্বরের পুত্র, ঈশ্বর তাহাতে থাকেন, এবং সে ঈশ্বরে থাকে।

কেউ যদি স্বীকার করে যে, ‘যীশু ঈশ্বরের পুত্র,’ তবে ঈশ্বর তার অন্তরে বাস করেন, আর সে ঈশ্বরেতে থাকে।

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

আর ঈশ্বরের যে প্রেম আমাদিগেতে আছে, তাহা আমরা জানি, ও বিশ্বাস করিয়াছি। ঈশ্বর প্রেম; আর প্রেমে যে থাকে, সে ঈশ্বরে থাকে, এবং ঈশ্বর তাহাতে থাকেন।

আমাদের জন্য ঈশ্বরের ভালবাসা আছে আমরা তা জানি ও বিশ্বাস করি।ঈশ্বরই স্বয়ং ভালবাসা, আর যে কেউ ভালবাসায় থাকে সে ঈশ্বরের মধ্যে থাকে ও ঈশ্বর তার মধ্যে থাকেন।

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

প্রেমে ভয় নাই,বরং সিদ্ধ প্রেম ভয়কে বাহির করিয়া দেয়, কেননা ভয় দণ্ডযুক্ত, আর যে ভয় করে, সে প্রেমে সিদ্ধ হয় নাই।

যেখানে ঈশ্বরের ভালবাসা সেখানে ভয় থাকে না, পরিপূর্ণ ভালবাসা ভয়কে দূর করে দেয়, কারণ ভয়ের সঙ্গে শাস্তির চিন্তা জড়িত থাকে। যে ভয় পায় সে ভালবাসায় পূর্ণতা লাভ করে নি।

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

আমরা  প্রেম করি, কারণ  তিনিই প্রথমে আমাদিগকে প্রেম করিয়াছেন।

তিনিই (ঈশ্বর) আগে আমাদের ভালবেসেছেন, আর তার ফলে আমরা ভালবাসতে পারি।

We love because he first loved us.

We love him, because he first loved us.

কারণ যাহা কিছু ঈশ্বর হইতে জাত, তাহা জগৎকে জয় করে, এবং যে জয় জগৎকে জয় করিয়াছে, তাহা এই, আমাদের বিশ্বাস।

কারণ প্রত্যেক ঈশ্বরজাত সন্তান জগতকে জয় করে। আমাদের বিশ্বাসই আমাদের জগত জয়ী করেছে।

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

কে জগৎকে জয় করে? কেবল সেই, যে বিশ্বাস করে, যীশু ঈশ্বরের পুত্র।

আমাদের বিশ্বাসই আমাদের জগত জয়ী করেছে। কে জগতের ওপরে বিজয়ী হতে পারে? যে বিশ্বাস করে যে, যীশুই ঈশ্বরের পুত্র।

Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

তিনি সেই, যিনি জল ও রক্ত দিয়া আসিয়াছিলেন, যীশু খ্রীষ্ট; কেবল জলে নয়, কিন্তু জলে ও রক্তে।

ইনিই যীশু খ্রীষ্ট, যিনি জগতে জল ও রক্তের মধ্য দিয়ে এসেছিলেন।

This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood.

This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood.

পুত্রকে যে পাইয়াছে, সে সেই জীবন পাইয়াছে; ঈশ্বরের পুত্রকে যে পায় নাই, সে সেই জীবন পায় নাই।

ঈশ্বরের পুত্রকে যে পেয়েছে সেই সত্য জীবন পেয়েছে। ঈশ্বরের পুত্রকে যে পায় নি সে জীবন পায় নি।

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

বৎসেরা, তোমরা প্রতিমাগণ হইতে আপনাদিগকে রক্ষা কর।

তাই স্নেহের সন্তানরা, তোমরা মিথ্যা দেবদেবীর কাছ থেকে দূরে থেকো।
